There's no shortage of great whiskeys to be found in Texas. Here's a list of our five favorites that won't break the bank.

5. Ironroot Icarus Straight Corn Whiskey

We're starting off our list with something special. To start, Ironroot's Icarus Whiskey uses heirloom and non-GMO corns. Then, the limited-release Icarus is aged two years in peat and port casks giving it a very unique and robust finish.

4. Yellow Rose Outlaw Bourbon Whiskey

Yellow Rose is another of our favorite distilleries. Call me lazy, but I think this Hiconsumption article explained it best so I'll just leave this review up to them. "It’s made from a mash of locally-sourced Texas yellow corn, aged in small American oak barrels, and isn’t even protected from Houston’s frequent temperature swings — imparting characteristics you’ll not find anywhere else". — Pretty cool.

3. Treaty Oak Ghost Hill Bourbon

The next whiskey on our list is Treaty Oak's Ghost Hill Bourbon. Now, we may be a little biased because the Treaty Oak distillery is one of our all-time favorite hangout spots, but we think this Texas bourbon definitely deserves a spot in the top 5. Made with local-to-Austin heirloom grains from Barton Springs Mill, this two year old bourbon is vibrant and sweet. Ghost Hill is definitely a whiskey worth checking out. And we highly recommend trying a glass (or three) at their amazing 28-acre ranch in Dripping Springs.

2. Garrison Brothers Straight Bourbon

Garrison Brothers is a very highly regarded Texas distillery and typically bottles of their spirits can go for hundreds of dollars. That said, if you're looking to score a Garrison Brothers at a reasonable price, check out their Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

1. Balcones Single Malt Whiskey

For us, Balcones Single Malt Whiskey takes the number one spot. Without a doubt Balcones are making some of the most exciting spirits coming out of Texas right now. From the Texas Blue Corn Whiskey to the Texas Rum, their list of their heavily lauded spirits is very long. The Single Malt is their tried-and-true whiskey and a great representation of this incredible distillery.
